Highlights:
OMMC
Surgery submitted and presented 17 education papers under several categories:
PBL; social accountability in health science education; clinical skills laboratory; distance education; innovative health professions education; curriculum development of evidence-based practice; health professions education; innovative educational technology; evaluation studies; and policy and program implementation.
All the 17 papers practically constituted the entire educational program of OMMC Surgery which was developed from 2001 to August, 2004.
There
was a total of 52 abstracts for the free paper presentation published in the
program. OMMC Surgery’s 17 abstracts
constituted 32%.
There
was a total of 32 abstracts from the Philippines. OMMC Surgery’s 17 abstracts constituted 53%.
Of
the 17 OMMC Surgery’s papers, 5 were for poster presentation and 12, oral
presentation. There was a total of 9
papers in the poster presentation. OMMC
Surgery’s 5 poster presentation constituted 55%.
OMMC Surgery was the only postgraduate clinical department that presented education papers in the conference.
All
surgical residents (15) and 5 core consultants participated in the
conference. For the oral presentation,
11 residents and 1 consultant presented.
For the poster presentation, 4 residents and 1 consultant presented.
The
Metrobank Foundation Inc. supported the registration of all the participants of
OMMC Surgery.
Diskettes
containing the full articles of the OMMC Surgery’s papers were given out for
free to interested audience.
The
full papers have been submitted to the Journal of Medical Education and UP
Manila Journal for possible publication.
